Expert Squirrel Removal

The common grey squirrel we see in parks and gardens today is not in fact a UK native. They came to us from America in the late nineteenth century, and have thrived in our climate. But far from being the sweet creatures we see in parks, grey squirrels can cause huge amounts of damage. From tearing up loft insulation to use as bedding to chewing roof timbers, stored items and electrical wiring. And with two litters of between 6 and 8 kittens a year and a lifespan of up to 6 years, it’s easy to see how they can become a problem -, fast. If you think you have squirrels in your home or property, call the experts at Apest Control for a free squirrel control appointment today.

The Common Grey Squirrel

Since their arrival in the UK, the grey squirrel population has exploded. They are able to cause massive damage to gardens and homes and so these small furry mammals are now considered a pest.

The most common and successful form of squirrel control is trapping, with either live or spring trapping devices. We use traps in accordance with statutory guidelines and trapped animals are disposed of humanely.
  • Grey squirrels are active during the day and are omnivorous – they feed on seeds, nuts, insects, bird eggs and increasingly, discarded human food.
  • They breed between December and February and again from March to May.
  • They are well known for their survival capabilities in storing food across winter months.
  • Gestation is between 6-7 weeks and they produce two litters of 1-8 young a year on average. Lifespan is 8-9 years.
